Currently in a Hybrid Setup for Office 365 with Dirsync Version 1.0.6455.807 / FIM 4.1.34.65.0.I'm looking to upgrade DirSync to AAD Connect, and move it onto a new server at the same time so I've exported the server configuration via miisclient.exe on the DirSync server. Then on the new server I'm running 'AzureADConnect.exe /migrate' on the new serverand telling it to use the exported configuration but it fails saying that 'an error occurred while importing DirSync settings. Installation cannot continue'.If the AzureADConnect setup is ran on the current DirSync server it passes all the pre-requisites and looks like it would upgrade. The reason for the move is from a 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 Operating System.Has anyone else had this problem or got any advice?RegardsAdam. Hello Adam,As said in my earlier post if you have less than 50,000 objects you can use In-place-Upgrade option. I understand that you would want to upgrade the sync server to 2012, In case you have 50,000 objects, the wizard automatically presents the exportoption.

If not, then you have to force it. Also be sure to read the online guide carefully to orchestrate the cutover from the old server to the new server.Reference:Best RegardsSadiqh AhmedIf a post answers your question, please click Mark As Answer on that post and Vote as Helpful. Sorry, I've been out of the office for a few days. The log suggests its a permissions issue:09:31:40.048 1 INFO Product Azure Active Directory Connect (version 1.0.8641.0) is installed.09:31:40.048 1 INFO Checking for DirSync conditions.09:31:40.048 1 INFO Starting DirSync flow. Hello Adam,I can’t make any sense out of the path that contains the word “somewhere”. I have a feeling that you have edited that line to remove PII.

However according to the forum post the core issue appears to be you apparently exported using miisclient.exeand tried to import with AADConnect. You can only import settings into AADConnect that were exported by AADConnect on another machine. For DirSync installations with 50,000 users the wizard will recommend exporting settings for use on another server, but will also allow you to in-place upgrade if you prefer. For more details see the link: andWe would also like to understand what exactly you're trying to achieve. Could you explain the scenario in detail?Best RegardsSadiqh AhmedIf a post answers your question, please click Mark As Answer on that post and Vote as Helpful.

Hello Sadiqh,Can you elaborate more on ' If not, then you have to force it. 'I've been to the link you provided but the switch '/ForceExport' does nothing.I urgently need to do just that as I cannot import MIIS exported XML files into the AADconnect directly, nor I can do a in place upgrade (another server), nor do I have more than 50,000 objects. It seems to me that this has nothing to do with the numberof objects, it seems to me that AADConnect wizard can only export settings from a Dirsync tool, not from AAD Sync tool.
